Faces
(2024)
Collage Series
Faces explores identity, perception, and fragmentation through collage, inspired by the work of John Stezaker. Using his signature technique of precise scalpel cuts, I combined classical artworks, such as those by Botticelli, with found imagery from books and postcards to create hybrid portraits that feel both familiar and uncanny.
This project allowed me to reflect on how identity is often constructed from layers of past influences, both cultural and personal. The process of cutting and reassembling mirrored a deeper introspection, like how we often reshape ourselves to fit different roles or expectations. Working with Stezaker’s methods pushed me to think critically about composition and contrast and helped me develop a greater appreciation for the power of visual juxtaposition. By blending classical beauty with fragmentation, I aimed to create pieces that challenge viewers to reconsider how we define and recognise a face or identity.
